About the Role

The Climate Change Programme Director will lead our work on climate adaptation and mitigation, overseeing critical projects that help strengthen the resilience of Commonwealth member countries. This includes providing technical guidance, developing policy frameworks, negotiating climate action strategies, and integrating gender and youth considerations into climate programming.

This role involves managing climate finance initiatives, helping countries mobilize investments to achieve their climate goals. You will also oversee the implementation of climate change programmes, ensuring they align with national plans and international climate commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership: Provide strategic direction for the Secretariat's climate change efforts.
  • Policy & Technical Support: Offer expert technical and policy advice to governments on climate adaptation, mitigation, and finance.
  • Programme Oversight: Manage the implementation of climate change programmes, ensuring alignment with national plans and international climate commitments.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Post-Graduate Degree in Environment and Development, Environmental Policy, Climate Change, or a closely related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in climate change policy development, negotiation, and implementation.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with a focus on mentoring and developing talent within your team.
