Director of Inspection Services

The Village of Greendale is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Director of Inspection Services. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with National, State, and local construction codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform skilled inspection and administrative work to ensure compliance with National, State, and local construction codes and regulations.
  • Supervise the work of the Code Enforcement Officer, Administrative Assistant, and contracted inspectors.
  • Exercise technical judgment and discretion in the enforcement of applicable codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate and attend Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings.
  • Attend Village Board meetings as needed.
  • Oversee the Code Enforcement program.
  • Provide technical assistance and recommendations for Village-owned facility projects.
Essential Functions:
  1. Responsible for performing skilled inspection and administrative work to ensure compliance with National, State, and local construction codes and regulations.
  2. Considerable skill in reading and interpreting blueprint specifications and construction drawings.
  3. Exercises technical judgment and discretion in the enforcement of applicable codes and zoning regulations.
  4. Coordinates and attends Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings.
  5. Attends Village Board meetings, as needed.
  6. Oversees Code Enforcement program.
  7. Provides technical assistance and recommendations for Village-owned facility projects.
Requirements:
  • Associate Degree or equivalent in Building Construction or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a certified building inspector.
  • Department of Safety and Professional Services preferred certifications in the following areas:
    • UDC Construction Inspector
    • UDC-HVAC Inspector
    • UDC Electrical Inspector
    • UDC Plumbing Inspector
    • Commercial Plumbing
    • Commercial Electrical
    • Commercial Building
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license and good driving record.
Essential Knowledge and Abilities:
  1. Responsible for performing skilled inspection and administrative work to ensure compliance with National, State, and local construction codes and regulations.
  2. Recognize and communicate to owner/agents instances of code/regulation non-compliance.
  3. Read and interpret construction, land grading, and erosion control plans and specifications.
  4. Conduct building, residential electrical, HVAC, and erosion control inspections in a thorough and efficient manner.
  5. Deal effectively and courteously with contractors and citizens.
  6. Be, and remain, perceptive and able to work outside in all weather conditions.
  7. Effectively use machines, computers, software and/or equipment necessary for the position.
