Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom Financial Conduct Authority Full time

About the Role

We are recruiting for a Senior Supervisor to join the P2P and Crowdfunding team in the Investment Platforms and SIPP Operators (IPSO) Department at the Financial Conduct Authority.

The IPSO department is part of the Consumer Investments (CI) Directorate, with a priority to ensure consumer interests are central to firms within each portfolio. We reduce harm to consumers, particularly from unsuitable high-risk investments, fraud, operational & financial resilience issues, and disorderly firm failure.

A key consideration in our future supervision of firms will be how we test 'consumer outcomes' of firms from their implementation of the Consumer Duty, which sets a higher level of consumer protection in retail financial markets for firms to adhere to.

Firms are already bound by our rules to treat customers fairly, while many deliver the right outcomes for consumers. However, we have evidence of practices that cause consumer harm, including misleading information presented or difficult to understand, hindering consumer assessment.

Our goal is to expand existing rules to ensure firms provide a higher level of consumer protection consistently, enabling consumers to get good outcomes. The Consumer Duty will drive a shift in culture and firm behaviours, ensuring products and services are fit for purpose.

Your Responsibilities

  • Analyse business models & strategies of firms, identifying conduct risks that could harm consumers and/or markets.
  • Develop and deliver supervision and mitigation strategies, setting clear expectations for firms, influencing and persuading them to change conduct behaviour to deliver better outcomes for consumers.
  • Making sound judgements that solve problems identified through evidence-based analysis, from information and data about firms and wider industry issues.
  • Develop constructive working relationships with senior management in firms we supervise.
  • Deliver targeted and effective communications to key stakeholders, internally and externally.

About You

You will support the team to deliver P2P and Crowdfunding portfolio strategies, supervising and carrying out proactive- and reactive-casework, along with projects on firms in those portfolios. This role supports the overall Consumer Investments' and FCA Strategies to mitigate harm and ensure consumers can invest with confidence.

This position requires experience of financial analysis and dealing with complex information or data, financial services, regulatory, consultancy, audit, or compliance experience. You must be able to communicate key messages effectively, explain complex issues clearly and concisely, and build effective working relationships to support delivery of objectives across diverse stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to £64,000 (national) and £70,400 (London), plus flexible benefits scheme giving you the opportunity to create a personalised benefits package.
  • 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays.
