About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Actuarial Leader to join our team at Hannover Re. As a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for leading our corporate actuarial, risk management, and compliance functions.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provide strategic guidance and support to our Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team on actuarial, risk management, and compliance matters.
  • Develop and implement the strategic vision for our Corporate Actuarial, Risk Management, and Compliance areas, aligning with our Group and Branch strategies and business objectives.
  • Identify emerging risks and develop mitigating or monitoring actions, taking ownership of their implementation.
  • Drive operational efficiency and continual improvement across our teams.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing team with a depth of skills and experience to manage succession opportunities.
  • Act as a role model to foster our company's purpose, values, and leadership fundamentals.
  • Operate with integrity and professionalism, representing our company as an ambassador both internally and externally.

Corporate Actuarial / Actuarial Function

  • Ensure our actuarial function delivers the required outputs and insights, including technical provisions and reserves in accordance with relevant Group, regulatory, or statutory requirements.
  • Monitor the performance of our in-force portfolio, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Set valuation assumptions and contribute to the development of core bases.
  • Produce inputs to our capital calculations and validate the output from our Group Internal Capital Model.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Chair our Branch Risk Committee.
  • Oversee engagement with our Group and Branch regulators on risk management and compliance topics.
  • Ensure the ongoing effectiveness of our Risk Management and Compliance Functions.
  • Embed a positive risk management and compliance culture throughout our organization, involving our Risk Management and Compliance Functions in projects and initiatives.
  • Establish a view on material current and emerging risks of our company and regulatory developments, clearly communicating these and supporting our business to identify and implement actions to monitor, mitigate, or address them.
  • Oversee production of our Branch ORSA and use of the ORSA as an integral part of our business strategy development and monitoring.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Qualified Actuary with at least 10 years' post-qualification experience.

Experience

  • Proven experience building and leading high-performing teams and delivering operational excellence.
  • Experience working within an actuarial function at a senior level in the UK (re)insurance market.
  • Knowledge of IFRS17 and Solvency II reporting.
