About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Palliative Care Team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing expert care and assessment to patients with progressing life-limiting illnesses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical excellence, leadership, and innovation in palliative care, utilizing highly developed specialist knowledge and expertise.
  • Act as a nurse adviser to patients, carers, and staff, providing specialist information and support for those with palliative care/end of life needs within the hospital setting.
  • Undertake holistic assessments of patients' and carers' needs, ensuring that they are recorded and communicated to the appropriate individuals.
  • Promote an optimal environment for the delivery of care for patients within the hospital setting, in partnership with other healthcare professionals.
  • Facilitate the discharge of patients in accordance with rapid discharge guidelines and their preferred place of care and death.
  • Provide education and training to members of nursing and medical teams within the trust.
  • Support junior members of the hospital palliative care team.
Requirements
  • NMC Registered Adult Nurse.
  • Educated to Degree level or professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma supplemented by specialist training, experience, or masters modules.
  • Specialist qualification in palliative care or specialist-related qualification experience or experience.
Desirable Criteria
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification.
  • Physical assessment qualification.
  • Psychological Assessment training Level 2.
  • Communication skills training.
