Senior Fellow in Thoracic Interventional Medicine

About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Senior Fellow in Thoracic Interventional Medicine to join our expanding team at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to hone their skills in interventional bronchoscopy, pleural disease, and lung cancer screening.
The role will involve working with the Thoracic Oncology department in a team of 5 fellows, gaining experience in the rapid cancer clinic, and procedures including linear EBUS, AFI bronchoscopy, radial probe EBUS, navigational bronchoscopy, and soon-to-be robotic bronchoscopy. There will also be opportunities for experience in pleural procedures with local anaesthetic thoracoscopy, indwelling pleural catheters, chest drains, and ambulatory pleural vents.
The post holder will work in the rapid HSC clinics, pleural clinics, and support specialist ward referrals. There will be opportunities to undertake research projects and present at conferences. This will help build their portfolio prior to taking up a definitive Consultant post with an interest in Pleural Disease/Intervention/Lung Cancer.
Main Duties of the Job
The posts will be focused on all the elements involved in the management of lung cancer pathways, from early detection with screening to management of complex lung cancer and pleural disease. They will offer the post holder the opportunity to further develop interventional skills including endobronchial skills with other pleural and minimally invasive thoracic techniques.
In addition to the interventional procedures, the post-holders will be involved with the full diagnostic pathways from screening triage, outgoing of screening investigations, rapid access lung cancer clinics, Cancer and Pleural ward consult service, MDT, including specialist pleural MDT, teaching, research & audit, and service development.

Skills and Experience Required
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual who is trained to Level 1 in thoracic ultrasound and has the ability to work independently at bronchoscopy. The ideal candidate will have some experience in EBUS and indwelling pleural catheter insertion and thoracoscopy. They will also have excellent written and oral communication skills, flexibility, commitment, and compatibility with colleagues and staff in the department.
