Environmental Sustainability Project Lead

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Sustainability Project Lead to join our team at South Gloucestershire Council. This is a challenging and rewarding role that will play a crucial part in helping us achieve our Climate and Nature Emergency Plan.
Job Summary
- This is a 2-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension.
- You will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of projects related to nature recovery, climate resilience, and carbon reduction across the Lower Severn Vales.
- You will work closely with services across the council, partners, and stakeholders to manage project priorities and deliver results.
- You will be required to keep up-to-date with national and sub-regional policy issues and changes.
- You will represent the Council at Officer level and signpost best practice and funding opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead by example to make our operations and services carbon neutral, climate resilient, and nature positive.
- Enable a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and thriving district through our policies, programmes, operations, and decision-making.
- Inspire residents, communities, businesses, national Government, and agencies to take fast climate and ecological action.
- Develop and manage partnership and delivery projects as part of the Council's response to the Climate and Nature Emergency Plan.
- Work with services across the council, partners, sector-leading experts, and local communities to manage and deliver work priorities and projects.
- Manage consultants and other contractors who provide technical input to inform development and delivery of projects.
- Implement projects, including achieving and tracking milestones, targets, and outputs.
- Keep elected Members, officers, partners, and funders briefed and updated on progress.
What We're Looking For
- A relevant professional environmental qualification or equivalent experience in policy/strategy development, project management, and partnership working.
- A thorough understanding and experience of applying relevant policy and practice in relation to carbon management, renewable energy, and climate resilience.
- The ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate complex data and technical information.
- Experience of planning and managing multidisciplinary projects and project teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.
- The ability to organise and facilitate successful meetings and events.
Salary
£60,000 - £70,000 per annum (dependent on experience).
