Horticulture Apprentice

About the Role

As a Horticulture Apprentice at South Gloucestershire Council, you will play a vital role in providing our residents with high-quality public parks and green spaces that are managed in environmentally sustainable ways.

Key Responsibilities

• You will assist in maintaining and improving our parks and green spaces, including clearing litter, emptying bins, and replanting display beds.
• You will learn how to work in the greenhouse, cut lawns, and maintain bedding displays in our high streets.
• You will also help shape up formal hedges, clear leaf fall from the parks, and cultivate and prepare for seeding and planting.
• You will understand the importance of health and safety and learn how to use and maintain both powered and non-powered tools and equipment.
• You will be allocated a workplace mentor to guide and support you in completing your Level 2 in Horticulture Operative.

Requirements

• You will need to have good attention to detail and be able to work well as part of a team.
• You will have a keen interest and passion for Horticulture and Landscaping.
• You must have a good work ethic and commitment to gaining your qualification as well as your learning on the job and your employment.

Training and Development

You will attend weekly day release on a Monday at Wiltshire College, Lackham Park, Chippenham, SN15 2NY, and the council will cover your travel expenses to the college.

Assessment

To successfully complete the apprenticeship, you will be required to complete an end-point assessment that consists of a Practical Assessment, Professional Discussion, and Online Knowledge Assessment.
