About the Role

The University Access Officer plays a vital role in supporting students from under-resourced backgrounds to access top universities through a unique combination of tuition and in-school mentoring.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work directly with students in a professional and safe manner to ensure their academic success.
  • Engage with students in school and enrol them onto the programme, providing guidance and support throughout the process.
  • Match students with volunteer tutors, ensuring a positive and productive learning experience.
  • Monitor student attendance to tutorials and devise innovative solutions to encourage attendance, promoting a culture of engagement and motivation.
  • Assess student progress towards making successful university applications, providing regular feedback and support.
  • Upload information onto the Salesforce database, utilizing technology to streamline processes and enhance programme delivery.
  • Monitor the impact of tutorials and intervene as necessary, ensuring the programme's effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Build and manage relationships with volunteer tutors, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
  • Manage tutor attendance to tutorials through weekly monitoring systems, ensuring a high level of engagement and participation.
  • Work with school staff to ensure their cooperation and timely completion of activities contributing to the smooth running of the programme.
  • Chair and present at termly school meetings with Senior Management to report on programme progress, providing regular updates and insights.
  • Support the volunteering team by helping to deliver tutor training sessions and attending university site visits, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development.

Training and Development

The University Access Officer will receive regular monthly training to develop their skills and succeed in the role, ensuring a high level of competence and confidence.

There will be support from the Programme Manager, as well as guidance from more senior University Access Officers and the wider University Access Officer team across The Access Project.

Opportunities for progression are available, including additional responsibility roles that can be applied for once the probationary period has been successfully completed.
