Job Summary:

Spire Healthcare is seeking a skilled Porter to join their team on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will work as a multi-skilled member of the service team, providing high-level support to the hospital with minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect and deliver items needed by the hospital from/to other facilities.
  • Provide occasional taxi service to patients and staff.
  • Deliver blood units to Theatres and Ward in accordance with local working instructions.
  • Clean, wash, and refuel the company vehicle.
  • Undertake portering duties to agreed standards and procedures, including transportation of patients/goods/sets/equipment/linen/medical gases, clinical/general waste, mail distribution, general cleaning, and security duties.
  • Collect and return patients to and from Theatres/Ward/Short Stay Suite/Imaging Department.
  • Set up and dismantle tables and chairs in the restaurant for functions.
  • Carry out tasks from the weekend jobs list.
  • Retrieve medical records from external storage when staff are not on duty.
  • Deliver morning papers to patients and internal departments.
  • Order linen on designated days and order supplies from BOC via the pharmacy.
  • Participate in porters' meetings and keep up to date with information in the porters' folder.
  • Clear waste from Theatres Department and dispose of it in designated areas, ensuring liaison with CSSD for timely collection and disposal of clinical waste.
  • Collect pre-ordered meals for consultants and staff, and take them to the Theatre Rest Room.
  • Maintain Theatre Lounge supplies, including plastic cups, tea, coffee, and milk.
  • Manage linen collection, distribution, and storage, including Theatre caps and masks.
  • Monitor and maintain stocks of fluids daily, including saline and water, and check warming cabinets.
  • Monitor and maintain the Blood Fridge, changing discs every Monday and checking alarms and discs daily.
  • Assist other porters on duty when not active.

Requirements:

  • Able to adopt a flexible attitude towards duties, which may be varied subject to departmental needs.
  • Clean driving license.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Happy to perform manual handling duties, including moving beds and furniture.
