British Neuroscience Association PhD Scholarship

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated researcher to join our team as a PhD scholar in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) research. This fully funded 3-year position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative, real-time BCI systems.

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of our esteemed research team, led by Dr. Saugat Bhattacharyya, and will be involved in the design, development, and testing of passive BCI frameworks that integrate magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography (EEG) signals. The goal is to create a personalized system that monitors cognitive and emotional states alongside physiological and behavioural metrics, enhancing outcomes for cognitive tasks like decision-making and motor rehabilitation.

This project addresses a critical gap in BCI technology adoption by focusing on passive, user-adaptive systems that are intuitive and responsive to individual needs. By integrating physiological, affective, and behavioural signals, we aim to create a trust-enhancing, user-centric BCI framework, boosting both effectiveness and user experience.

The successful PhD candidate will develop skills in neural and physiological signal processing, machine learning, cognitive computational modelling, and high-performance computing. This project will prepare impactful careers in data science, artificial intelligence, neurotechnology, biotechnology, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and test passive BCI frameworks that integrate MEG and EEG signals
  • Contribute to the development of a personalized system that monitors cognitive and emotional states
  • Work with the research team to implement cutting-edge machine learning and computational modelling techniques

Requirements:

  • MSc or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., neuroscience, computer science, engineering)
  • Strong background in neural and physiological signal processing, machine learning, and cognitive computational modelling
  • Demonstrated experience in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++

Salary: £19,237 per annum, plus additional research funding and benefits
