York, York City, United Kingdom York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a dedicated and skilled physiotherapist to join the breast care services team.

We are looking for a physiotherapist with outstanding communication abilities to collaborate with a highly specialized physiotherapist and contribute to the breast care unit.

The team's mission is to deliver a comprehensive and adaptable patient-centered approach tailored to the unique needs of patients at various stages of their treatment.

This role offers a fantastic chance to enhance your expertise in managing this specific patient demographic.

The position requires a commitment of 10 hours per week, specifically on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Key Responsibilities

You will have the opportunity and resources to cultivate specialized skills in the physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients diagnosed with breast cancer.

Your responsibilities will include working with patients post-breast cancer surgery, providing guidance on shoulder mobility, strategies to mitigate lymphoedema risks, and managing cording and scar tissue through massage techniques.

A significant aspect of this role involves developing expertise in assessing and managing breast cancer-related lymphoedema, focusing on patient education, information dissemination, and support to empower patients in self-care and condition management. Continuous training and mentorship will be provided to help you acquire the necessary skills to support this patient group effectively. This will include collaboration with the specialized physiotherapist, observation, supervision, service enhancement, and participation in external training programs. Treatment modalities include basic lymphatic drainage, manual lymphatic drainage, exercise management, and advice on compression garments.

The service is committed to advancing and refining physiotherapy practices in alignment with local and national standards. Participation in service development and quality audits is expected. The primary focus of the service is outpatient care.
