Position Overview

This is a full-time, permanent role within our upper school, focusing on teaching students aged 13 and older.

Applicants should be prepared to deliver engaging lessons in at least two scientific disciplines. All staff members share the responsibility for the school's daily operations, including providing pastoral care, ensuring safety, and supporting the overall well-being of students. Collaboration among teachers is essential, and participation in meetings, parent consultations, and professional development is expected.

Qualified candidates who can teach all three sciences, even if not at advanced levels, may be considered for a full-time teaching position with reduced additional responsibilities.

It is important to note that the school does not employ laboratory technicians; therefore, science teachers are responsible for organizing practical lessons, with support from colleagues when needed.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Deliver science instruction to middle and upper school students, adhering to developmentally appropriate educational principles.
  • Assist class teachers in delivering science content to younger students.
  • Create assessment tools and grading criteria aligned with educational outcomes, ensuring timely feedback on student work.
  • Participate in school planning sessions and maintain accessible year and block plans.
  • Develop an understanding of each student's learning needs and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Engage in parent meetings as required.
  • Share supervisory duties during breaks and provide coverage for absent colleagues.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and collaborate with other educators to address any arising issues.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss pedagogical strategies and school-related matters.
  • Participate in the admissions process for new students, sharing responsibilities with fellow teachers.
  • Keep accurate records and maintain up-to-date student files, documenting interactions with parents and educational professionals.
  • Prepare individual reports for parents in a timely manner, adhering to established deadlines.
  • Ensure that safeguarding and behavioral concerns are documented appropriately.
  • Maintain a conducive classroom environment, including preparation for the start of each term and organization of seating arrangements.
  • Participate in public events promoting the school and its educational philosophy.
  • Communicate any support needs to the teaching and management teams in a timely manner.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities as requested.
  • Familiarize oneself with and implement all school policies.
  • Participate in self-appraisal and assist in evaluating colleagues, working with mentors on pedagogical matters.
  • Share responsibility for supervising students during recreational periods.
  • Provide coverage for absent colleagues as necessary.

Employment Terms:

The salary for this position ranges from £26,000 to £28,000, depending on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications. Salaries are subject to ongoing review.

This is a full-time role requiring attendance five days a week from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The teaching load averages 10-12 hours per week, with variations depending on the academic schedule.

Teachers are expected to arrive by 8:30 AM to greet students and prepare for the school day, which begins promptly at 9:00 AM. The school day concludes at 3:30 PM, and teachers should remain until all students have been collected.

Additional attendance may be required for meetings, parent consultations, and school events.

Staff children are not entitled to free enrollment in the school or kindergarten. However, those facing financial difficulties may apply for reduced fees through the established process.

Statutory sick pay provisions apply.
