Norfolk, United Kingdom NORWICH STEINER SCHOOL Full time

Position Overview

This is a full-time, permanent role designed for collaboration with our current upper school educators, focusing on teaching students primarily aged 13 and older.

Applicants should be capable of delivering at least two scientific disciplines in a captivating and engaging manner. Furthermore, all full-time personnel share the responsibility for the daily operations of the school, which includes providing pastoral care, ensuring safeguarding, and maintaining health and safety standards. Teachers are expected to collaborate, participate in staff meetings, engage in parent consultations, and attend training sessions.

Upper school educators with suitable qualifications may also take on the role of 'class guardian' for a specific upper school class during their tenure.

If the ideal candidate can teach all three sciences, even if not all at level 3, the position will be regarded as a full-time teaching role with fewer additional responsibilities.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Possess a degree in a scientific field.
  • Have prior teaching experience and a genuine passion for working with adolescents.
  • Be willing to learn and teach based on an understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for children at various ages.
  • Exhibit a commitment to a phenomenological approach in science education.

It is important to note that the school does not employ laboratory technicians; therefore, practical lessons must be organized by the science educators, although colleagues will assist when feasible.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in sciences within the middle and upper school, adhering to developmentally appropriate educational principles.
  • Assist class teachers with science instruction for younger students.
  • Create assessment guidelines and marking criteria for learning outcomes, ensuring timely feedback on student work.
  • Participate in school planning sessions and maintain accessible year and block plans.
  • Develop an understanding of each pupil's learning needs and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Engage in parent meetings as necessary.
  • Share supervisory duties during breaks and provide coverage for absent colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and collaborate with other educators to address any arising issues.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss pedagogical matters and other relevant topics.
  • Participate in the admissions process for new students, sharing responsibilities with fellow educators.
  • Maintain accurate records and keep pupil files updated, documenting all communications with parents and relevant professionals.
  • Prepare individual reports for parents in a timely manner, adhering to established deadlines.
  • Ensure that safeguarding and behavioral concerns are documented promptly and appropriately.
  • Maintain a conducive classroom environment, preparing for the start of term and organizing seating arrangements.
  • Participate in public events promoting the school and Steiner education, acting as a positive representative of Norwich Steiner School.
  • Clearly communicate any reasonable support needs to the teaching and management teams.
  • Engage in professional development workshops and training as requested.
  • Familiarize oneself with and implement all school policies.
  • Participate in performance appraisals and assist in evaluating colleagues, working with mentors on pedagogical matters.
  • Share responsibility for supervising students during recreational periods.
  • Provide coverage for absent colleagues as needed.

Employment Terms:

The salary for this position ranges from £26,000 to £28,000, contingent upon the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. Salaries are subject to ongoing review.

This is a full-time role requiring attendance five days a week from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The teaching load averages 10-12 hours per week, with potential variations based on lesson blocks.

During the summer holiday's first week, all teaching staff are expected to engage in group planning activities.

Additional attendance may be required for communication, parent meetings, student interviews, school events, and administrative tasks. Full-time educators should arrive by 8:30 AM to welcome students, with the school day commencing promptly at 9:00 AM.

Staff children are not offered free placements within the school or kindergarten. Those facing financial difficulties may apply for reduced fees through the established concessionary process.

Statutory sick pay provisions apply.

Employee Benefits:

  • The school offers a workplace pension scheme managed by NEST, with automatic enrollment for staff upon commencement of employment.
  • Free on-site parking is available.
  • A Cycle to Work scheme is provided.
  • Access to the Employee Assistance Programme, offering support for professional and personal matters.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be conducted in the final week of the term.
