Norfolk, United Kingdom NORWICH STEINER SCHOOL Full time

Position Overview

This is a full-time, permanent role within our esteemed educational institution, focusing on teaching students primarily aged 13 and above in the upper school.

Applicants should be prepared to deliver engaging lessons in at least two scientific disciplines. All full-time staff share the responsibility for the daily operations of the school, including providing pastoral care, ensuring safeguarding, and maintaining health and safety standards. Collaboration among staff is essential, with expectations to participate in meetings, parent evenings, training sessions, and professional development days.

Qualified upper school educators may also be designated as 'class guardians' for specific classes throughout their tenure.

Should the ideal candidate possess the ability to teach all three sciences, even if not to the highest level, the position will be regarded as a full-time teaching role with fewer additional responsibilities.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Possesses a degree in a scientific field.
  • Demonstrates prior teaching experience and a genuine passion for working with adolescents.
  • Exhibits a willingness to learn and teach based on developmental appropriateness for various age groups, guided by principles of Anthroposophy.
  • Commits to a phenomenological approach in science education.

It is important to note that the school does not employ laboratory technicians; therefore, science educators are responsible for organizing practical lessons, with support from colleagues as needed.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in middle and upper school science classes, adhering to developmental principles as outlined by Rudolf Steiner.
  • Assist class teachers with science instruction for younger students.
  • Create assessment frameworks and grading schedules aligned with educational outcomes, ensuring timely feedback on student work.
  • Participate in school planning sessions and maintain accessible year and block plans.
  • Develop an understanding of each student's learning needs and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Engage in parent meetings as necessary.
  • Share supervisory duties during breaks and provide coverage for absent colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and collaborate with other educators to address any arising issues.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss pedagogical matters and school-related topics.
  • Participate in the admissions process for new students, sharing responsibilities with fellow educators.
  • Maintain accurate records and keep student files updated, documenting all communications with parents and educational professionals.
  • Prepare individual reports for parents in a timely manner, adhering to established deadlines.
  • Ensure that safeguarding and behavioral concerns are documented promptly and appropriately.
  • Maintain a conducive classroom environment, preparing for the start of term and organizing seating arrangements.
  • Participate in public events that promote the school and Steiner education, serving as an advocate for the institution.
  • Clearly communicate any support needs to the teaching and management teams.
  • Engage in professional development workshops and training as requested.
  • Familiarize oneself with and implement all school policies.
  • Participate in self-appraisal and assist in evaluating colleagues, working with mentors on pedagogical matters.
  • Share responsibility for supervising students during playtime.
  • Provide coverage for absent colleagues as required.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary for this position ranges from £26,000 to £28,000, contingent upon the candidate's experience and qualifications. Salary reviews are conducted regularly.

This is a full-time role, requiring attendance five days a week from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The teaching load averages between 10 to 12 hours per week, with variations depending on lesson blocks.

All teaching staff are expected to be present during the first week of the summer holiday for group planning sessions.

Additional commitments may include parent meetings, child interviews, school festivals, and administrative tasks. Full-time educators should arrive by 8:30 AM to receive students, with school starting promptly at 9:00 AM and concluding at 3:30 PM.

Staff children are not offered free places within the school or kindergarten, though those facing financial difficulties may apply for reduced fees through the established process.

Statutory sick pay allowances are applicable.

Additional Benefits:

  • The school provides a workplace pension scheme through NEST, with automatic enrollment for staff upon commencement of employment.
  • On-site parking is available at no cost.
  • A Cycle to Work scheme is offered.
  • Access to the Employee Assistance Programme is provided, offering support for professional and personal matters.

Interviews for selected candidates will be conducted in due course.
