Position Overview

This is a full-time, permanent role collaborating with our dedicated upper school faculty, focusing on teaching students aged 13 and older.

Applicants should be capable of delivering at least two scientific disciplines in an engaging and stimulating manner. Additionally, as with all full-time personnel, there is a collective responsibility for the daily operations of the school, including providing pastoral care, ensuring safeguarding, and maintaining health and safety standards. Teachers are expected to work collaboratively, participate in staff meetings, attend parent evenings, and engage in professional development sessions.

Upper school educators with the requisite skills may also be invited to take on the role of 'class guardian' for a specific upper school class during their tenure.

If the ideal candidate can teach all three sciences, even if not all to level 3, the position will be considered a full-time teaching role with fewer additional responsibilities.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Possess a degree in a scientific field.
  • Have prior teaching experience and a genuine passion for working with adolescents.
  • Be willing to learn and adapt teaching methods based on developmental appropriateness for various age groups.
  • Exhibit a commitment to a phenomenological approach in science education.

It is important to note that the school does not employ laboratory technicians; therefore, practical lessons must be organized by the science educators, although colleagues will assist when feasible.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Instruct sciences to students in middle and upper school, adhering to developmentally appropriate educational principles.
  • Assist class teachers with science instruction for younger students.
  • Create assessment frameworks and grading schedules aligned with educational outcomes, ensuring timely feedback on student work.
  • Participate in school planning sessions, ensuring that year and block plans are consistently available.
  • Develop an understanding of each student's learning needs and tailor instruction to support their growth.
  • Engage in parent meetings as necessary.
  • Share supervision duties during breaks and provide coverage for absent colleagues.
  • Maintain communication with parents and collaborate with other educators to address any arising issues.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss pedagogical matters and other relevant topics.
  • Participate in the admissions process for new students, sharing responsibility with fellow educators.
  • Keep accurate records, maintain up-to-date student files, and document all communications with parents and educational professionals.
  • Prepare individual reports for parents in a timely manner, adhering to established deadlines.
  • Ensure that safeguarding and behavioral concerns are recorded promptly and appropriately.
  • Maintain a conducive classroom environment, preparing the space for the start of each term and helping students keep it organized.
  • Participate in public events promoting the school and its educational philosophy, acting as an advocate for the institution.
  • Communicate any reasonable support needs to the teaching and management teams.
  • Engage in professional development workshops as requested.
  • Familiarize oneself with and implement all school policies.
  • Participate in performance appraisals and assist in evaluating colleagues.
  • Share supervision of students during recreational periods.
  • Provide coverage for absent colleagues as needed.

Employment Terms:

The salary for this position ranges from £26,000 to £28,000, contingent upon the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. Salaries are subject to ongoing review.

This is a full-time position requiring attendance five days a week from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The role typically involves 10-12 hours of teaching weekly, with variations depending on the academic schedule.

During the summer holiday, all teaching staff are expected to participate in group planning activities.

Additional attendance may be required for communication, meetings, interviews, and school events. Full-time educators should arrive by 8:30 AM to welcome students, with the school day commencing promptly at 9:00 AM.

Staff children are not offered free places within the school or kindergarten, but financial assistance may be available through a concessionary fee process.
