Position Overview

This is a full-time, permanent role designed for collaboration with our dedicated upper school faculty, focusing on teaching students aged 13 and older.

Applicants should be proficient in delivering at least two scientific disciplines in an engaging and stimulating manner. Furthermore, all full-time educators at our institution share the responsibility for the daily operations of the school, which includes providing pastoral care, ensuring safeguarding, and maintaining health and safety standards. Teachers are expected to collaborate, participate in staff meetings, engage in parent consultations, and attend professional development sessions.

Qualified upper school educators may also be appointed as a 'class guardian' for a specific upper school class during their tenure.

If the ideal candidate can teach all three sciences, even if not to level 3, the position will be regarded as a full-time teaching role with fewer additional responsibilities.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Possess a degree in a scientific field.
  • Have prior teaching experience and a genuine passion for working with adolescents.
  • Be willing to adapt teaching methods based on developmental appropriateness for various age groups, informed by a foundational understanding of Anthroposophy.
  • Exhibit a commitment to a phenomenological approach in science instruction.

It is important to note that our institution does not employ laboratory technicians; therefore, science educators must organize practical lessons independently, although support from colleagues will be available when necessary.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in middle and upper school sciences, adhering to developmentally appropriate educational principles.
  • Assist class teachers with science education for younger students.
  • Create assessment criteria and grading schedules aligned with learning outcomes, ensuring timely feedback on student work.
  • Participate in school planning sessions, maintaining up-to-date year and block plans.
  • Develop an understanding of each student's learning journey and tailor instruction to support their growth.
  • Engage in parent-teacher meetings as necessary.
  • Share supervisory duties during breaks and provide coverage for absent colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and collaborate with other educators to address any emerging issues.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings outside of regular school hours to discuss pedagogical matters.
  • Participate in the admissions process for new students, sharing this responsibility with fellow educators.
  • Maintain accurate records, ensuring student files are current and documenting all relevant communications.
  • Prepare individual student reports for parents in a timely manner, adhering to established deadlines.
  • Document safeguarding and behavioral concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Foster a conducive classroom environment, preparing the space for the beginning of each term and assisting students in maintaining organization.
  • Participate in public events promoting the school and Steiner education, serving as an advocate for our institution.
  • Clearly communicate any reasonable support needs to the teaching and management teams.
  • Engage in professional development workshops and training as requested.
  • Familiarize oneself with and implement all school policies.
  • Participate in self-appraisal and assist in evaluating colleagues, working with mentors on pedagogical matters.
  • Share the responsibility for supervising students during playtime.
  • Provide coverage for absent colleagues as needed.

Employment Terms:

The salary for this position ranges from £26,000 to £28,000, contingent upon the candidate's experience and qualifications. Salaries are subject to ongoing review.

This is a full-time role requiring attendance five days a week from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. On average, the position involves 10-12 hours of teaching weekly, with variations depending on lesson blocks.

Teachers are expected to arrive by 8:30 AM to receive students and ensure a prompt start to the school day.

Regular attendance at meetings, parent consultations, and school events is required.

Our institution does not provide free tuition for staff children; however, staff facing financial difficulties may apply for reduced fees through our established process.

Statutory sick pay provisions apply.
