Position Overview

This is a full-time, permanent role within our upper school team, focusing on teaching students aged 13 and older.

Applicants should be prepared to deliver engaging lessons in at least two scientific disciplines. All full-time educators share responsibilities for the daily operations of the school, including pastoral care, safeguarding, and health & safety. Collaboration among staff is essential, and participation in meetings, parent consultations, and professional development is expected.

Qualified candidates who can teach all three sciences, even if not at the highest level, may be considered for a full-time teaching position with fewer additional responsibilities.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Possesses a degree in a scientific field.
  • Has prior teaching experience and a genuine passion for working with adolescents.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and teach based on developmental appropriateness for various age groups.
  • Commits to a phenomenological approach in science education.

It is important to note that the school does not employ laboratory technicians; therefore, science teachers are responsible for organizing practical lessons, with support from colleagues as needed.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in science subjects for middle and upper school, adhering to developmental principles as outlined by educational philosophy.
  • Assist class teachers with science education for younger students.
  • Create assessment frameworks and grading schedules aligned with learning outcomes, ensuring timely feedback.
  • Participate in school planning sessions and maintain up-to-date year and block plans.
  • Develop an understanding of each student's learning needs and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Engage in parent meetings as necessary.
  • Share supervisory duties during breaks and provide coverage for absent colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and collaborate with other educators to address any arising issues.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss pedagogical matters and school-related topics.
  • Participate in the admissions process for new students, sharing responsibilities with fellow educators.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure pupil files are current, documenting all relevant communications.
  • Prepare individual reports for parents in a timely manner, adhering to established deadlines.
  • Document safeguarding and behavioral concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Foster a conducive classroom environment, ensuring it is well-organized and prepared for educational activities.
  • Participate in public events that promote the school and its educational philosophy.
  • Clearly communicate any support needs to the teaching and management teams.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities as requested.
  • Familiarize oneself with and implement all school policies.
  • Contribute to performance appraisals and collaborate with mentors on pedagogical matters.
  • Share responsibility for supervising students during recess.
  • Provide coverage for absent colleagues as needed.

Employment Terms:

The salary for this position ranges from £26,000 to £28,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary reviews are conducted regularly.

This is a full-time role requiring attendance five days a week, with an average teaching load of 10-12 hours per week, subject to variation based on lesson blocks.

All teaching staff are expected to participate in planning sessions during the summer break.

Additional attendance for meetings, parent consultations, and school events is required. Staff should arrive by 8:30 AM to prepare for the school day, which begins promptly at 9:00 AM.

Staff children are not entitled to free enrollment in the school or kindergarten. Financial assistance may be available through a concessionary fee process for those in need.
