Position Overview

The role of the National Clinical Specialist Advisor (NCSA) is pivotal in providing expert clinical guidance and strategic leadership within the realm of Specialised Services. This position is essential for enhancing the quality of care for individuals with rare and intricate health conditions, including those with uncommon cancers, genetic anomalies, or complex medical and surgical issues.

Key Responsibilities

The National Clinical Specialist Advisor will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical advice and leadership to facilitate the transformation of healthcare services for patients.
  • Offer clinical insights to support the commissioning of specialised services.
  • Deliver clinical guidance on various issues to uphold parliamentary accountability.

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead clinical initiatives, offering advice and insights to enhance the planning and delivery of high-quality specialised services, ensuring care is tailored to the needs of specific population groups.
  • Collaborate with senior programme owners and stakeholders to realize the programme's objectives, focusing on improving healthcare quality and value while ensuring clinical relevance and credibility.
  • Assist policy and strategy teams in designing and implementing tools that facilitate system-wide, professional, and care pathway changes at both national and local levels.

This appointment is offered on a sessional basis, with terms to be agreed upon between the team and the selected candidate, for a duration of up to three years, subject to an annual progress review.
