Nutritional Services Specialist

The successful candidate will oversee the nutritional care provided to both patients and staff. This role is designed to support the efficient daily management of food services and the central dishwashing operations. The aim is to uphold the highest standards of cleanliness associated with a quality food delivery system.
The primary focus of this position will be on managing the dining areas, ensuring that service standards are upheld, HACCP protocols are followed, and objectives are achieved. Responsibilities will include staff scheduling, managing absences, and overseeing inventory supplies.

Key ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with patients and staff on wards to guarantee that patients receive sufficient nutrition.
- Manage inventory of frozen and non-perishable food items.
- Prevent food waste in service areas.
- Work closely with catering personnel.
- Ensure that cleaning protocols are consistently maintained and monitored.
- Enforce personal hygiene standards among staff and ensure hygienic food handling practices.
- Provide adequate training for staff on all operational procedures within the department.

Detailed Job Description and Main Duties Facilitate induction processes for new employees.
- Ensure that patient meals are served at appropriate temperatures, presented attractively, portioned correctly, and delivered on time.
- Delegate tasks within the section to achieve optimal performance and seamless operations.
- Ensure the economical use of resources.
- Request repairs for all malfunctioning and hazardous equipment, including minor building repairs.
- Collaborate closely with the catering manager.
- Communicate with nursing staff, catering supervisors, maintenance teams, portering management, and dieticians.
- Strictly adhere to Health and Safety regulations, following established safety protocols.
- Utilize equipment and facilities safely and appropriately.
- Avoid any misuse or interference with health and safety provisions that could endanger oneself or others.
- Promptly report all hazards, defects, accidents, and unusual occurrences, ensuring that accident reports are completed.
- Compile statistics related to food service and dishwashing for monitoring purposes.
- Strong supervisory abilities to motivate and organize staff.
- Knowledge of and compliance with legislation and Trust regulations, including health and safety.
- Experience in catering operations.
- Ability to manage priorities under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Food Safety Level 2 or an equivalent qualification.
- NVQ Level 3 in Food Safety or an equivalent qualification.
- Basic Food Hygiene skills.
