Nutritional Services Specialist

The individual in this role will oversee the nutritional support provided to both patients and staff. The primary objective is to facilitate efficient daily operations within the food service and central dishwashing departments, ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and quality in food delivery.
This position will concentrate on managing the dining areas, guaranteeing that service standards are upheld, HACCP protocols are followed, and performance targets are achieved. Responsibilities will include staff scheduling, managing absences, and ensuring adequate stock levels.

Key ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with patients and staff on wards to ensure nutritional needs are met.
- Manage inventory of frozen and dry goods.
- Minimize food waste in service areas.
- Work closely with catering personnel.
- Maintain and regularly review cleaning schedules.
- Enforce personal hygiene standards among staff and ensure hygienic food handling practices.
- Provide comprehensive training for staff on operational procedures.

Detailed Job ResponsibilitiesCoordinate induction for new employees.
- Ensure food is served at optimal temperatures, presented attractively, portioned correctly, and delivered on time.
- Delegate tasks within the section to maximize efficiency and ensure smooth operations.
- Promote economical use of resources.
- Request repairs for faulty or hazardous equipment, including minor building maintenance.
- Collaborate closely with the catering manager.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, catering supervisors, maintenance teams, portering management, and dieticians.
- Adhere strictly to Health and Safety regulations, following established safety policies.
- Utilize equipment and facilities safely and appropriately.
- Avoid any misuse or interference with health and safety provisions that could endanger oneself or others.
- Promptly report hazards, defects, accidents, and unusual occurrences, ensuring completion of necessary documentation.
- Compile statistics related to food service and dishwashing for monitoring purposes.
- Strong supervisory abilities with a knack for motivating and organizing teams.
- Knowledge of and compliance with relevant legislation and Trust regulations, particularly regarding health and safety.
- Experience in the catering sector.
- Ability to prioritize tasks under pressure and meet stringent deadlines.
- Food Safety Level 2 or an equivalent qualification.
- NVQ Level 3 in Food Safety or a similar qualification.
- Basic Food Hygiene skills.
