Support Specialist for Unit Care

Dunstable, Central Bedfordshire, United Kingdom Central Bedfordshire Council Full time

Position Overview:

The primary objective of our Reablement Service is to assist elderly individuals in maintaining their independence within their own residences. By promoting active participation in the community, we recognize that a small segment of the population may require short-term assistance in a 24-hour care facility aimed at rehabilitation or recovery. This time is dedicated to evaluating options for long-term care, which may include rehabilitation centers, care homes, or hospice services.

At Central Bedfordshire Council, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for our residents. As a Support Specialist for Unit Care, you will play a crucial role in empowering individuals to maximize their autonomy.

Your contributions will enable older adults to enjoy the freedom and opportunities to lead fulfilling lives.

Recovering from illness or a hospital stay can be challenging, making daily tasks seem daunting. In your role, you will provide essential support to older individuals, assisting them in regaining their independence. You will encourage them to recover skills and manage everyday activities such as personal hygiene, dressing, and meal preparation.

As a regular point of contact for our service users, you will also be tasked with evaluating each individual's unique requirements. A solid understanding of the needs of older adults and individuals with disabilities is essential. An NVQ level 2/3 in a relevant field (or equivalent qualifications or experience) is preferred. Additionally, you should be organized, accustomed to a caregiving role, and capable of working independently. Strong interpersonal skills are vital to help put individuals at ease and motivate them towards improvement. If you possess these qualities, you will find this role to be highly rewarding.

Benefits Offered:

In addition to being part of a friendly, dedicated, and hardworking team, you will have access to a variety of benefits, including:

  • A comprehensive IT package to facilitate safe and effective work
  • Generous family-friendly policies and practices
  • An inclusive environment that values diversity
  • Supportive staff networks
  • Annual leave of 25 days plus statutory holidays, increasing to 32 days with length of service
  • Participation in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), which includes Life Assurance
  • An exceptional Employee Assistance Programme to support employees with workplace changes and personal issues
  • A wide range of courses and role-specific training to foster your success and development
  • Access to discounts with leading UK retailers and local businesses

Central Bedfordshire Council is guided by its vision and values, which are integral to our operations. Our overarching aim is to make Central Bedfordshire 'A great place to live and work'.
