Position Overview

The Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is excited to present a permanent Band 7 opportunity for a Psychological Practitioner within our Learning Disability Community Services. This role involves working collaboratively across various locations, including Gloucester and the Forest of Dean. We are looking for motivated individuals who can contribute positively and adaptively to a vibrant service environment. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong dedication to person-centred care, possess exceptional professional and clinical abilities, and ideally have experience within the NHS framework. This position necessitates the application of psychological principles that foster and enhance effective psychological outcomes through both direct and indirect engagement. Consequently, consultation, education, and training will be integral components of this role, alongside direct clinical responsibilities.

Candidates should demonstrate professional and clinical competencies pertinent to the specialty, including proficiency in psychological assessment techniques and formulation-based interventions. This role is particularly suited for those with a proactive mindset who are eager to further develop the service. The position requires a flexible, resilient, and industrious team player with outstanding organizational skills and the capacity to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote the psychological health and well-being of individuals with Learning Disabilities referred to the Community Learning Disabilities Teams.
  • Deliver specialized psychological assessment and intervention services to individuals, groups, and organizations, utilizing various applied psychology models.
  • Provide clinical supervision for pre-qualified psychology personnel based on their experience.
  • Engage in relevant research and audit activities.
  • Offer clinical services within the designated service area and the broader Learning Disability Psychology service, collaborating with a qualified Psychologist and a diverse multi-disciplinary team.
  • Deliver services in a variety of settings, including client residences, residential facilities, day care centers, educational institutions, GP practices, clinics, and hospital wards.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will join a supportive and collaborative multi-disciplinary team that is co-located with other teams serving different client groups. Effective collaboration is essential to provide comprehensive services to individuals with Learning Disabilities, their families, and caregivers.

Our team includes seven other qualified Psychologists within the Learning Disability Service in Gloucestershire. We foster excellent working relationships and provide robust support. A wide array of psychological models is utilized and valued, with clinicians encouraged to pursue areas of special interest. We have a strong track record of supporting Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and maintain close ties with the Doctorate Training Course at Bath University, regularly facilitating training placements. Regular meetings among Psychologists across teams are held to discuss professional matters, service innovation, and collaborative initiatives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Experience Requirements

  • Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written, to convey complex, sensitive information to clients, families, caregivers, and professional colleagues within and outside the NHS.

Professional Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of lifespan and developmental psychology, psychometrics, and current practices relevant to the client group.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel independently across the county.
  • Willingness to undertake all Statutory and Mandatory Training, including physical intervention training.
