Position Overview

Developmental Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our dedicated team within the Older People's Mental Health Services. This role is positioned at a band 8a level, with the possibility of considering candidates at a band 7 for developmental purposes. There may also be opportunities to integrate this position with additional hours in related specialties.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and Memory Assessment Service (MAS). These teams are well-established, collaborative, and value the contributions of psychological expertise. Responsibilities will include delivering specialized therapeutic interventions to individuals, couples, families, and groups, alongside conducting neuropsychological assessments and interventions. The role also encompasses indirect responsibilities such as consultancy, training, and supervision of team members.

As part of our team, you will collaborate with fellow psychologists who specialize in older adult care across the region, all while being embedded within multi-disciplinary teams. Our service is recognized for its stability and excellence, comprising a Consultant Lead Psychologist, several Psychologists, and a number of Assistants. Regular meetings for continuing professional development, clinical supervision, and collaborative service enhancement projects are integral to our practice.

Key Responsibilities

Our current psychologists provide formulation-driven therapeutic interventions utilizing various models, including Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Systemic Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Neuropsychological approaches. We are eager to welcome a candidate who is enthusiastic about enhancing our team's skill set and contributing positively to our broader service.

We maintain strong connections with the Clinical Psychology Training Course at Bath University, contributing to the Older Adult teaching program, hosting trainees, and participating in the selection process.

The ideal candidate will possess a genuine interest in working with older adults and their families, demonstrating a commitment to person-centered and psychologically informed service delivery. You should be able to showcase professional and clinical competencies relevant to this specialty, including proficiency in neuropsychological assessment techniques and formulation-based interventions. This position is suited for individuals with a proactive mindset who are eager to contribute to service development. The role demands adaptability, resilience, and excellent organizational skills, along with the ability to work independently.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential qualifications include registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a postgraduate doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology or an equivalent qualification. Desirable qualifications may include Chartered status and evidence of applying psychological knowledge to enhance practice.

We encourage applications from both experienced professionals and those nearing qualification. For candidates who are newly qualified, we are open to discussing adjustments to the role with a view to appointing at Band 7.
