Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

Position Overview: We invite applications for a Research Fellow role within a vibrant research group focused on cardiovascular regenerative science. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research on human heart development utilizing advanced single-cell methodologies and innovative in vitro models.

Research Context: Cardiovascular diseases represent a significant global health challenge, highlighting the urgent need for novel therapeutic strategies. The heart comprises diverse cell types, each playing unique roles in both health and disease. Our research aims to utilize single-cell technologies to explore this cellular diversity, enhancing our understanding of cardiovascular pathologies.

Project Focus: Our recent work has produced a detailed map of the developing human heart and associated vascular structures. Insights gained from single-cell genomics are expected to improve the accuracy of stem cell-derived cardiac models. This project will concentrate on replicating natural developmental processes to create more physiologically relevant cardiac cells in vitro, thereby enhancing their applicability for disease modeling and pharmacological testing.

Team Environment: We are looking for dedicated postdoctoral researchers to join our team and contribute to advancing our knowledge of cardiovascular diseases through innovative methodologies. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative environment at the Sinha lab, located within a prestigious research institute.

Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will possess a strong motivation for research, excellent collaboration skills, and expertise in pluripotent stem cell biology and cardiac biology. Previous experience in single-cell genomics, stem cell culture, and genetic engineering is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine stem cell-based models for disease investigation.
  • Analyze single-cell datasets to extract insights into cardiac cell development and disease mechanisms.
  • Utilize bioinformatics tools to interpret extensive genomic data and identify critical regulatory pathways in heart development.
  • Create new cell lines through genetic modification techniques.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in cardiovascular biology, stem cell biology, molecular biology, genomics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong expertise in stem cell culture and differentiation methodologies.
  • Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing and related computational analysis.
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics and statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Python).
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team.

Commitment to Diversity: The University is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, and encourages applications from all sections of society.

Eligibility: The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
