Position Overview

Velindre Cancer Centre is on the lookout for a Chief of Medical Physics Operations to oversee the professional guidance and administration of medical physics and clinical engineering services. This role encompasses leadership responsibilities for the Velindre Cancer Centre and the broader South East Wales area, which includes collaboration with various health boards. The Chief will also ensure compliance with regulatory standards and provide expert advice on medical physics and clinical engineering issues at both local and national levels. A significant aspect of this position is to foster a culture of innovation and excellence within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes a strong emphasis on both undergraduate and postgraduate education. Velindre Cancer Centre is recognized as a training hub for Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering, working in partnership with local universities to deliver relevant academic programs. The Chief will lead initiatives in clinically relevant research and development, securing funding from external sources and supervising postgraduate research students. Collaborative research efforts will be pursued with higher education institutions both nationally and internationally. The Chief will also hold an honorary academic position at a partnering university, contingent upon meeting the institution's criteria.

Qualifications and Expertise

Essential Qualifications

  • Consultant Clinical Physicist status.
  • State Registered Clinical Scientist.
  • Fellowship of a relevant professional body.
  • PhD in Medical Radiation Physics or equivalent.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiation physics and its application in cancer therapy.
  • Familiarity with national and international guidelines related to cancer treatment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Postgraduate management or teaching qualifications.
  • Experience in radiation protection advisory roles.
  • Knowledge of advanced radiation physics principles.
