QinetiQ's Science and Technology business in the UK Defence sector is seeking a Strategic Business Development Lead to spearhead the development and acquisition of new business opportunities within specialized domains such as advanced materials, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), and autonomous systems. This pivotal role will be instrumental in driving growth and cultivating robust relationships with customers, industry partners, and academic institutions. We are seeking a highly accomplished individual with a proven track record in Defence industry business development or technical delivery, characterized by a steadfast commitment to customer outcomes and long-term business expansion.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute winning capture strategies that align with market trends and client needs.
  • Lead growth objective-driven Business Development initiatives, ensuring alignment with QinetiQ's strategic goals.
  • Shape emerging opportunities and provide visionary leadership throughout the Business Winning process, from identification to closure.
  • Maintain meticulous forecasts and ensure strict adherence to established business winning policies and procedures.

Key Capabilities:

  • Demonstrated expertise in generating new business or fostering successful customer engagements within the Defence sector.
  • In-depth domain knowledge of defence-related Research and Development, encompassing cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to identify long-term opportunities and anticipate market shifts.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • A customer-centric approach driven by a passion for innovation and delivering exceptional value.
  • Strong commercial acumen and a focus on driving growth and profitability through strategic decision-making.
  • Adaptable communication style tailored to different audiences, ensuring clear and concise messaging.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Defence industry business development, demonstrating a consistent track record of success.
  • Or minimum 2 years of experience as a technical lead in aviation technology, showcasing expertise in relevant domains.
  • A well-established professional network within the Defence industry, fostering valuable connections and partnerships.
  • Hold a minimum of SC security clearance, ensuring compliance with national security protocols.
