Role Summary:
The Cost Management Specialist plays a pivotal role in assisting the Deputy Head of Cost in establishing and overseeing a sustainable cost management framework. This framework is essential for delivering reliable cost data and analysis, enabling the management committee to make informed decisions that benefit the overall program.

Key Responsibilities:
The Cost Management Team is tasked with the oversight and validation of program cost data provided by various stakeholders through regular financial assessments and budgeting cycles. This information is integral to the overarching cost model and is subject to rigorous auditing processes.

This role is instrumental in ensuring that the annual budgeting cycle is executed efficiently, with a focus on timely and high-quality deliverables. Continuous identification and implementation of process enhancements are also critical components of this position.

Cost Awareness:
This role will promote a culture of cost awareness, ensuring alignment between base costs, uncertainties, risks, and opportunities, while also considering the underlying assumptions and project schedules.

Qualifications:

  • Desirable: Qualifications in Finance or Project Management.
  • Required: Experience in finance, project accounting, project controls, or cost estimation.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale capital projects at a project manager level.

Experience:
Extensive experience in bridging the gap between project activities and financial outcomes is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to ensure transparency and clarity in financial reporting.

Desirable Attributes:
Experience in significant UK investment projects involving both public and private sectors is advantageous. Candidates should exhibit strong leadership qualities and a commitment to enhancing performance and achieving planned objectives. A collaborative mindset that values diverse perspectives is also essential.
