About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Investment Valuation Analyst to join our team at the Universities Superannuation Scheme. As a trusted member of our Finance team, you will play a critical role in assisting with the performance of investment valuations and valuation control activity for the Investment segment of USS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Valuation Expertise: Build a thorough commercial understanding of the scheme's illiquid equity and credit investments, and perform quarterly (and occasional ad hoc) valuations of illiquid credit and equity asset investments.
  • Valuation Reporting: Draft valuation reports in line with regular valuation timetables, and formulate robust and defensible valuation opinions.
  • Financial Analysis: Perform preliminary review and analysis of business plans and cash flow models, and develop and update valuation models.
  • Collation and Challenge: Collate underlying financial data from investment managers, providing relevant challenge where necessary, and perform monthly valuation roll-forward process between quarters.
  • Asset Management: Work with the asset management teams (Private Markets Group) to gain an understanding of assets and key developments, and collate relevant management information.
  • Communication: Prepare valuation reports and committee submissions, communicate key valuation judgments and conclusions to stakeholders, and document (and, where appropriate, enhance) valuation procedures and controls.
  • Administrative Duties: Perform administrative duties for the Investment Valuations function, and interact and liaise with financial control and operations functions for certain key processes and ad hoc queries.
Requirements
  • Experience: Prior experience of performing business, equity, and/or credit investment valuations as the primary function of a previous or existing role.
  • Qualifications: Professionally Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or other relevant financial qualification with significant exposure to investment appraisal techniques (CFA).
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, excellent level of Excel skills, and experience of dealing with external clients or influencing at senior level within an organisation.
