Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Bereavement Midwife who will collaborate with the partner specialist midwife to provide exceptional care, support, and practical guidance to women and their families facing pregnancy loss and the death of a baby. The successful candidate will work in tandem with another Specialist Midwife for Bereavement to ensure a comprehensive 7-day bereavement service and to enhance the bereavement care framework at Barts Health.

Main Responsibilities

The Specialist Midwife will serve as an expert practitioner, sharing responsibilities with the partner specialist bereavement midwife and nurse to deliver care and support to families during their most challenging times. This role involves ensuring the implementation of a continuous bereavement service and fostering the development of a premier bereavement service.

Key duties include:

  • Ensuring all care adheres to Trust policies and procedures while maintaining accurate records.
  • Utilizing clinical audits, research, and supervision to enhance care standards through effective resource management.
  • Meeting reporting requirements for national standards and guidelines.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential qualifications include:

  • Registered Midwife status.
  • Intravenous accreditation.
  • Post-registration experience with recent intrapartum exposure.
  • Experience in staff management.
  • Completion of a Mentorship preparation course or equivalent.
  • A degree in a relevant field or working towards one.
  • A strong passion for Maternity Bereavement Care.

Desirable skills include knowledge of the National Bereavement Care Pathway and PMRT governance processes.
