Job Overview

Are you passionate about engaging in dynamic policy initiatives and collaborating with high-level officials and stakeholders on significant governmental priorities? We are seeking to fill multiple positions within our policy, implementation, and New Towns Taskforce secretariat.

Role Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be assigned roles based on their expertise and preferences identified during the recruitment process. We welcome applicants with experience in the following areas:

  • Facilitating or spearheading the formulation of policy alternatives concerning new towns, including aspects such as planning frameworks, large-scale housing delivery mechanisms, and establishing standards for new town developments.
  • Fostering effective working relationships with colleagues across various government sectors and external partners to enhance the execution of new town initiatives.
  • Evaluating complex technical information to generate evidence-based recommendations on diverse policy alternatives.
  • Assisting with departmental operations, including responding to parliamentary questions, managing correspondence, and preparing briefing materials.
  • Articulating government policies to a diverse audience, including members of parliament, laypersons, and the general public.
  • Contributing to the preparation of high-caliber advisory and communication materials for Ministers and Senior Civil Servants.

Implementation Support

Engage in the development and execution of delivery strategies, including funding mechanisms for new towns.

  • Collaborate with other government departments on delivery strategies, including Treasury, Cabinet Office, Department for Transport, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Department for Business and Trade.
  • Establish connections with key external stakeholders to stay informed on contemporary insights and to evaluate options.
  • Prepare high-quality advisory and communication products for Ministers and Senior Civil Servants.

Coordination Efforts

Assist in organizing relevant New Towns Taskforce meetings, which includes preparing briefings for the chair and leading official and ministerial pre-meetings.

  • Support the drafting of papers, collaborating with colleagues across government and providing effective secretariat functions, including minute-taking and action tracking.
  • Prepare high-quality advisory and communication products for Ministers and Senior Civil Servants.

Cross-Government Collaboration

Lead cross-government collaboration on the New Towns program, working closely with key entities such as Number 10 and the Treasury.

  • Support senior colleagues in cross-government interactions, ensuring that the broader government is informed of developments within the new towns initiative.
  • Provide high-quality briefings to senior officials in preparation for cross-government discussions.

Spatial Planning Expertise

Deliver comprehensive advice on location planning to support taskforce decision-making regarding suitable sites.

  • Collaborate across government to develop guidance on natural constraints, such as flood risks.
  • Work closely with local authorities and the Treasury to build evidence regarding the financial viability of location planning, ensuring that the taskforce is well-supported in its decision-making processes.
