Are you passionate about shaping dynamic policies and collaborating with high-level officials on critical governmental initiatives? We are seeking candidates for multiple positions within the New Towns Unit, focusing on policy formulation, execution, and the New Towns Taskforce secretariat.

Role Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be aligned with roles that match their expertise and preferences during the selection process. We welcome insights into your experience in the following areas:

  • Policy Development: Lead or assist in crafting policy alternatives concerning new towns, including aspects like planning frameworks, funding mechanisms for large-scale housing developments, and establishing standards for new town constructions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster productive relationships with colleagues across various government sectors and external partners, leveraging their insights to enhance the new towns initiative.
  • Data Analysis: Evaluate complex technical information to formulate evidence-based recommendations on diverse policy alternatives.
  • Departmental Support: Aid in departmental functions, including responding to parliamentary questions, managing correspondence, and preparing briefing materials.
  • Communication: Effectively convey government policies to diverse audiences, including Members of Parliament, non-specialists, and the general public.
  • Advisory Support: Assist in creating high-quality advisory documents and communication products for Ministers and Senior Civil Servants.

Delivery Coordination

  • Contribute to the development and execution of delivery strategies, including funding frameworks for new towns.
  • Collaborate with other government departments on delivery strategies, engaging with entities such as the Treasury, Cabinet Office, Department for Transport, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Department for Business and Trade.
  • Establish connections with key external stakeholders to stay informed on contemporary thoughts and validate options.
  • Prepare high-quality advisory and communication materials for Ministers and Senior Civil Servants.

Cross-Government Collaboration

  • Lead cross-government interactions regarding the New Towns program, closely working with the Prime Minister's Office, Treasury, and other departments.
  • Support senior colleagues in cross-government dialogues, ensuring that broader governmental bodies are updated on the new towns program's progress.
  • Deliver high-quality briefings to senior officials prior to cross-government discussions.

Spatial Planning Expertise

  • Provide robust guidance on location planning to assist the taskforce in making informed decisions about suitable sites.
  • Collaborate across government to develop advice concerning natural constraints, such as flood risks.
  • Work closely with local authorities and the Treasury to gather evidence on the financial feasibility of location planning, ensuring the taskforce is well-supported in its decision-making processes.
