Job Overview
Are you passionate about engaging in dynamic policy initiatives and collaborating with key decision-makers on significant governmental priorities? We are seeking to fill multiple positions within our policy, implementation, and New Towns Taskforce secretariat as part of the expansion of the New Towns Unit.
Role Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be assigned roles that align with their expertise and preferences as identified during the recruitment process. We encourage applicants to share their experiences in the following areas:
- Lead or assist in formulating policy alternatives concerning new towns, which may encompass areas such as planning frameworks, large-scale housing project delivery mechanisms, and establishing standards for new town developments.
- Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues across various government sectors and external partners, leveraging their insights and responsibilities to enhance the new towns initiative.
- Evaluate a diverse array of complex technical information to formulate evidence-based recommendations regarding various policy alternatives.
- Provide support for departmental functions, including responding to parliamentary questions, managing correspondence, and preparing briefing materials.
- Effectively communicate government policies to a broad audience, including Members of Parliament, non-specialists, and the general public.
- Assist in the creation of high-quality advisory and communication materials for Ministers and Senior Civil Servants.
Implementation Support
Engage in the development and execution of delivery strategies, including funding mechanisms for new towns.
- Collaborate with other government departments on delivery strategies, including Treasury, Cabinet Office, Department for Transport, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Department for Business and Trade.
- Establish connections with key stakeholders outside of government to gain insights into contemporary thinking in this domain and evaluate potential options.
- Prepare high-quality advisory and communication materials for Ministers and Senior Civil Servants.
Coordination Duties
Assist in organizing relevant New Towns Taskforce meetings, which includes preparing briefings for the chair and leading official-level and ministerial pre-meetings.
- Support the preparation of documentation by collaborating with colleagues across government and providing effective secretariat functions, including minute-taking and action tracking.
- Prepare high-quality advisory and communication materials for Ministers and Senior Civil Servants.
Cross-Government Engagement
Lead cross-government collaboration on the New Towns program, working closely with the Prime Minister's Office, Treasury, and other governmental bodies.
- Support senior colleagues in cross-government interactions, ensuring that the broader government remains informed about developments in the new towns initiative.
- Deliver high-quality briefings to senior officials in preparation for cross-government engagements.
Spatial Planning Insights
Generate robust recommendations regarding location planning to assist the taskforce in making informed decisions about suitable sites.
- Collaborate across government to develop guidance concerning natural constraints, such as flood risks.
- Work closely with local authorities and the Treasury to gather evidence regarding the financial feasibility of location planning, ensuring that the taskforce is well-supported in its decision-making processes.
