Sunderland Carers Centre is dedicated to providing essential information, guidance, and support to unpaid caregivers.

We are looking for a candidate with exceptional interpersonal abilities to join our Carer Contact Team, serving as the primary point of contact within the organization and leading initiatives for young caregivers.

The ideal applicant will possess outstanding communication and organizational skills, along with the capability to research activities and events pertinent to young caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

The Carer Support and Guidance Coordinator will report directly to the Young Carer and Engagement Manager at Sunderland Carers Centre. The role emphasizes a holistic approach to engage young caregivers and their families in services tailored to their specific needs. The Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Young Carer Team to manage referrals and prioritize activities essential for supporting caregivers and their families. The position entails delivering accurate and relevant information, guidance, and support to caregivers.

Main Duties

As part of the Carers Services Contact Team, you will provide information, guidance, and support with a focus on outcomes that meet the individual needs of caregivers. Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering a welcoming first point of contact for inquiries via phone, email, in-person, or online.
  • Ensuring professional handling of incoming calls and directing them to the appropriate team member.
  • Developing and coordinating a variety of information and guidance resources tailored to the needs of caregivers and the community.
  • Managing the escalation of caregiver inquiries to ensure seamless service transitions.
  • Maintaining accurate administrative records, including updates to the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider team to provide diverse support options, including phone, email, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with other organizations and professionals to ensure caregivers have access to accurate information and opportunities.
  • Providing advocacy and enabling self-advocacy to enhance caregivers' confidence and self-esteem.
  • Supporting caregivers in exploring educational, training, volunteering, and employment options.
  • Facilitating opportunities for caregivers to share their experiences through groups and events.
  • Representing Sunderland Carers Centre to promote awareness of caregiver issues.
  • Contributing to the development of the organization through service evaluation and best practices.
  • Mentoring designated volunteers and students on placement.
  • Participating in supervision and appraisal sessions with your line manager.
  • Adhering to all organizational policies and maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • Strong proficiency in English and Mathematics.
  • Proficient in IT and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Understanding of issues affecting caregivers and their families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and multi-agency environment.

Desirable

  • Experience in facilitating group learning and support.
  • Knowledge of legislation related to caregivers.
