Wembley, United Kingdom Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust is in the process of establishing a pioneering Parent-Infant Mental Health Service (PIMHS) aimed at enhancing the well-being of families in the early stages of life. We are seeking a Senior Parent-Infant Psychotherapy Lead to oversee and cultivate this innovative team. The successful candidate will take charge of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and collaborate closely with the Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist to shape the service's direction. The role will involve working within various community settings.

Service Objectives

This initiative is designed to provide essential support to infants during their crucial first two years, addressing a spectrum of mental and emotional health challenges. Additionally, it aims to assist parents and caregivers who may be experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues that could impact their relationship with their infant. The service will also extend its support to fathers, co-parents, and the broader family dynamics, ensuring that the infant remains the focal point of all interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of a high-quality, specialized parent-infant psychotherapy service to clients within the PIMHS framework.
  • Implement specialized interventions for parent-infant relationships, including the development of community-based group work and virtual support, while adapting care plans to meet the diverse needs of families.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to parent-infant psychotherapists.
  • Conduct and oversee comprehensive assessments and treatments for service users, ensuring appropriate support and guidance for families.
  • Work independently within established professional guidelines, taking responsibility for the governance of psychological practices within the service.
  • Facilitate and promote research and audit activities within the perinatal mental health sector.
  • Act as a resource for the wider Trust and the national professional community.
  • Advocate for and implement policy enhancements within the service area.

About the Role

This position involves direct and indirect engagement with families facing complex mental health challenges. The role may require travel to various community locations, necessitating the transport of necessary materials and equipment. As a leader within a multidisciplinary environment, the post-holder will be expected to navigate team dynamics and address any conflicts that may arise.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Advanced training in clinical child psychotherapy from a recognized institution.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in child and adolescent psychotherapy, particularly in a leadership capacity.
  • Extensive background in psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment of children and their families.
  • Experience in managing safeguarding concerns effectively.

Desirable:

  • Experience in various tiers of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
  • Familiarity with parent-infant psychotherapy practices.
  • Research interests relevant to perinatal mental health.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Expertise in psychotherapeutic assessment and intervention methodologies.
  • Strong leadership capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of infant mental health and child development theories.
  • Ability to conduct audits and research in the field of perinatal mental health.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of NHS and social care frameworks.
  • Ability to teach and present on parent-infant mental health topics.

Professional Attributes

Essential:

  • Capacity to build effective working relationships within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to service evaluation and continuous professional development.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

This role is pivotal in shaping the future of parent-infant mental health services, ensuring that families receive the support they need during critical early years.
