Howden Joinery is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to enhance our Engineering Department at our Manufacturing Site.

In this pivotal role, you will oversee the programming and advancement of automation and control systems, ensuring that our engineering designs are both robust and dependable. As the technical authority on-site, you will excel in troubleshooting while spearheading continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.

This position is essential within Howdens, where the Control Systems Engineer will collaborate across various functions. Thus, the ability to foster trusted working relationships and make decisions that benefit all stakeholders is crucial for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage automation, electrical, and PLC design projects by identifying immediate and long-term challenges; preparing schedules, cost assessments, and comprehensive documentation upon project completion. Design and execute projects aimed at enhancing manufacturing availability, product quality, employee safety, and process efficiency. Acquire knowledge of the manufacturing processes and operational sequences, sharing insights with maintenance teams. Cultivate expertise in automation techniques to drive improvements and collaborate with maintenance teams. Implement plant/process development opportunities that enhance Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery. Mentor and develop the maintenance engineering team’s understanding of machine control and automation systems.

Shift Pattern:

Week 1 - Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - 6am-6pm Week 2 - Monday, Tuesday - 6am-6pm, Wednesday, Thursday - 6pm-6am Week 3 - Sunday, Monday, Tuesday - 6pm-6am 7 days off

Qualifications:

Qualified Electrical Engineer, Automation/Controls apprentice, or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in an FMCG setting. At least HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification. Proficient in fault finding and implementing program modifications on various PLCs & SCADA, Robotics. Knowledgeable in parameterization and commissioning of servo drives and inverters. Experienced in troubleshooting industrial communication networks. Skilled in designing and modifying control circuits and program logic. Capable of delivering change management initiatives.
