Position Overview:
As a Lead Intellectual Property Counsel at GlaxoSmithKline, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and safeguarding the intellectual property portfolio, particularly focusing on trademarks and copyrights associated with our healthcare divisions. Your expertise will be essential in providing strategic and actionable legal counsel on various aspects of intellectual property rights, including clearance, prosecution, enforcement, licensing, and litigation support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the management of the intellectual property portfolio, including conducting comprehensive searches, managing international filing strategies, and addressing oppositions and cancellations.
  • Deliver legal insights and guidance on intellectual property matters, encompassing branding, advertising, domain management, and the implications of emerging technologies.
  • Advise on intellectual property considerations in business transactions, negotiating and drafting relevant agreements to facilitate business growth.
  • Monitor and protect the intellectual property rights, identifying potential infringements, initiating legal actions, and resolving disputes effectively.
  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of global intellectual property policies and procedures, providing training and resources to internal teams on best practices.
  • Stay informed on advancements in intellectual property law and provide strategic advice on navigating the evolving landscape.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel and service providers, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective support.
  • Foster strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, including business units and legal teams, to ensure alignment and compliance.
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Qualified legal professional with expertise in intellectual property law.
  • Proven experience in managing intellectual property rights, preferably within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of intellectual property laws and practices across key jurisdictions.
  • Ability to provide clear and pragmatic legal advice in a dynamic business environment.
