Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

This position presents a unique opportunity to:

  • Formulate and implement a strategic vision to enhance and safeguard the organization’s intellectual property portfolio.
  • Lead the intellectual property strategy for Isomorphic Labs, ensuring a balance between strategic foresight and practical execution.
  • Collaborate closely with the IsoLegal team and various researchers and senior leaders across different business functions to design, develop, and execute the intellectual property strategy in alignment with the organization’s overarching goals.
Essential Duties

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and pursuing strategies to protect innovations stemming from IsoLabs' research and development initiatives, including advancements in AI/ML, small molecules, and biologic therapeutics.
  • Providing education on intellectual property matters and communicating guidance effectively.
  • Managing the company’s intellectual property affairs, which encompass client counseling, licensing transactions, patent preparation and procurement, opinion work, IP disputes and litigation, due diligence, competitive intelligence, budgeting, and trademark matters.
  • Proactively protecting and defending the organization’s intellectual property, anticipating potential disputes, conducting assessments, and executing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Counseling scientific and business colleagues on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and associated IP risks.
  • Staying abreast of legal trends and changes in laws and regulations.
  • Working collaboratively with IsoLegal and Alphabet teams, external counsel, consultants, and researchers to evaluate and support the development of new technologies and innovations.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An advanced technical or scientific degree, with a preference for a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in intellectual property law.
  • Experience in building and managing comprehensive global patent estates for therapeutic drug candidates.
  • A background in the pharmaceutical industry, with knowledge of the drug development process.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively, prioritize tasks efficiently, and manage complex projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to excellence in legal research and compliance.
  • Experience in patent law related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and AI-driven drug discovery.
  • A history of developing or enhancing an early-stage IP legal function.
