Placement Services Officer

The primary objective of this role is to enhance GBS's Careers and Employability placement services by identifying and securing work placements for students enrolled in GBS programs. You will play a crucial role in expanding our database of potential placement, volunteering, and internship providers, while also supporting the execution of GBS's strategic initiatives. This position involves conducting thorough due diligence with both students and employers, ensuring that all necessary documentation and agreements are collected promptly and accurately. Successful placements are essential for students to complete their Work-Based Learning Module effectively.

In addition, you will be responsible for organizing and facilitating workshops and events aimed at supporting the placement module and the broader Careers and Employability services. You will provide personalized placement advice through one-on-one consultations. The appointed Placement Services Officer will serve as the main point of contact for placement assistance and guidance at their campus. Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and nurture sustainable relationships with employers across various industry sectors, continuously developing placement and professional development opportunities for GBS students.
  • Maintain and expand a comprehensive database of placements, volunteering, and internship providers with suitable opportunities in sectors such as Healthcare, Business, and related fields, connecting employers with GBS students.
  • Oversee multiple student placements, ensuring all required documentation is obtained from both students and employers, and that placements are established correctly in compliance with GBS's requirements.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of work placement and student records using the placement tracker, compiling necessary reports for the department.
  • Develop online resources to assist students undertaking work placement opportunities.
  • Conduct individual meetings at the beginning of each term with students participating in the work placement program to prepare them for their placements.
  • Deliver a series of pre-placement preparation workshops to equip students before they commence their placements.
  • Assist employers in promoting job opportunities within GBS to our students through our online platform, targeted communications, and career newsletters.
  • Support the development of on-campus activities, including presenting information, delivering workshops, and organizing events such as job fairs.
  • Collaborate with local employers to identify and address skill gaps and employment opportunities for students (temporary, part-time, full-time, and online).
  • Maintain regular communication with students and employers to monitor placement progress, resolve any arising issues, and capture best practices and lessons learned.
  • Undertake travel between GBS campuses as required.
  • Prepare reports on placement activities and contribute to placement briefings, ensuring that information is accurate and accessible.
  • Stay informed about current labor market trends.
Qualifications
  • Recognized professional qualification at degree level or higher in a relevant field.
  • Strategic thinking ability with effective communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a higher education placement environment, Careers Service, or Recruitment Service.
  • Experience in delivering workshops and conducting one-on-one appointments.
  • Knowledge of managing work-based placements.
  • Understanding and experience in employer engagement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven track record in developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong networking and negotiation skills.
  • Commitment to staying informed about current labor market trends, particularly in recruitment practices within business and healthcare sectors, with potential for expanding into additional sectors as needed.
  • Experience in client relationship management.
  • Ability to meet targets in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate IT skills with a quick adaptability to new technologies.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Support and actively participate in the implementation of GBS's equal opportunities policies.
  • Flexibility in working hours to accommodate evening and weekend demands as necessary.
