Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a qualified and seasoned practitioner to take on the role of Clinical Lead within the emergency pathway of the mental health liaison service. This position is available due to the professional advancement of the current post holder.

The mental health liaison service operates in a fast-paced and vibrant environment.

The focus of the emergency pathway is to assess and support individuals of all ages who present at the emergency department. Candidates must be adaptable and ready to advocate for a diverse range of individuals, working beyond traditional service boundaries.

The successful candidate will provide direct clinical and operational management support to the team of liaison practitioners within the urgent pathway, ensuring the delivery of a safe and high-quality service. You should demonstrate the ability to perform effectively under pressure, possessing a solid understanding of clinical and risk assessment, along with excellent communication and supervisory skills.

Due to the nature of the service, this role requires daytime availability across seven days, including weekends and bank holidays, to ensure senior coverage for the liaison service.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current registration
  • Completion of Preparation for Mentorship / Practice Teacher / Fieldwork Educator qualification or willingness to complete
  • Relevant short courses and experience at postgraduate diploma level

Desirable

  • Registered General Nurse / Qualification related to physical health
  • Educated to degree level or currently pursuing a degree
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification
  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status or willingness to undertake
  • Formal teaching qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience as a liaison mental health practitioner at Band 6 or above in a general hospital setting
  • Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration in mental health care with complex cases
  • Proven track record of working towards objectives and meeting deadlines within a performance management framework
  • Experience in providing daily clinical leadership and operational management
  • Experience supervising junior staff
  • Experience in joint working with external agencies

Desirable

  • Experience in community settings
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Experience in managing and triaging referrals

Knowledge

Essential

  • Working knowledge of current mental health legislation and guidance regarding safeguarding and vulnerable adults
  • Familiarity with NICE guidance for treating mental health issues
  • Understanding of mental health and risk management processes
  • Comprehensive understanding of clients with co-occurring physical and mental health issues
  • Knowledge of a range of interventions and services that cater to the needs of all service users referred to mental health services, including those with dementia, delirium, functional illnesses, self-harm, and substance misuse
  • Competence in developing and delivering training related to mental health
  • Good understanding of clinical governance and quality improvement principles
