Head of Payroll Operations

Fusion Education People Solutions is seeking an experienced Payroll Professional to lead our Payroll Team and drive a managed payroll service growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities:- Support the payroll service growth strategy, including commercial overview and statistics for leadership reports.
- Present payroll-related information to the wider team, including tender submissions, sales presentations, and payroll messaging/branding.
- Establish and manage a forward-thinking team of payroll professionals, focusing on growth and development, and recruitment strategy.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive payroll strategy, optimizing processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and enhancing overall efficiency while minimizing risks.
- Enhance robust policies and procedures for payroll management, including payroll and pension processing, data security, compliance with tax laws, and employee compensation.
- Audit payroll transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of payroll services to customers, enhancing quality control measures and performance metrics.
- Oversee pension scheme administration, including enrolment, contributions, and changes across multiple pension schemes and associated audits.
- Liaise with internal teams to drive improvements and efficiencies.
- Take a proactive approach to shaping the evolution of the payroll function, identifying opportunities for innovation, process improvements, and strategic initiatives.
- Oversee customer satisfaction and retention, gathering customer data, and producing reports for submission to senior team/Directors.
- Liaise with key partners to ensure best service provision for customers, including payroll software, BACS, and partner providers.
- Proven payroll experience in a fast-paced operation, with Education sector experience desirable.
- Senior leadership experience within payroll operations.
- Commercial environment experience, utilizing sales forecasts and budgets, with a strong focus on sales and retention targets.
- Up-to-date payroll and pension knowledge, with awareness of upcoming legislative changes affecting pay.
- Extensive knowledge of computerized payroll systems, including experience with payroll system build, processing, 3rd party returns, and reporting.
- Excellent people management skills, with experience in managing and coaching employees, including appraisal, performance concerns, and navigating HR processes.
- Previous experience in managing customer payrolls in their entirety, including pension management.
- Solid understanding of payroll-related compliance, including audit.
- Demonstrated payroll project management skills.
- Ability to engage and influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and communicate complex information to various audiences.
