Facilities Director

The Head of Facilities is responsible for the day-to-day management of services, including Switchboard Services, Accommodation, Security, Helpdesk, Patient Transport (including couriers and taxis), Catering (Patient Dining & Retail), Trust Linen and Laundry Contract, and Community Soft FM service and contracts.
This role includes line management of the Service Manager for Domestic and Portering (Band 8A), overseeing 24-hour services associated with cleaning, portering, main reception, waste, and pest control.
Assist the Director of Environment in contributing to the Directorate's strategic and operational agenda, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective delivery of operational services within financial constraints.
Main Duties of the JobProvide visible leadership to staff, promoting a clear sense of direction within the Directorate, in line with achieving the hospital's objectives.
Line management responsibility for Band 8A Service Manager responsible for:
- Domestic and Portering Services (largest team within the Estates & Facilities Directorate with approximately 110 employees)
- Main Reception
- Trust Waste Contracts
- Pest Control Contract
- Day-to-day services for:
- Switchboard Services
- Accommodation
- Security
- Facilities Helpdesk

- Patient-Lead Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE)

Develop relevant operational policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.
Manage and develop the monitoring of critical interfaces between the telecommunication function and outside bodies/agencies, ensuring effective service management.

Job ResponsibilitiesContribute to the shaping of the vision of the hospital and departments.
Ensure all staff receive mandatory training as per the Hospital Training Policy.
Deliver an income target of £350,000 for Hospital Accommodation Services.
Manage waste disposal systems to minimize waste and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
Oversee the operation of the linen and laundry contract, ensuring contractor obligations are met.
Manage staffing, including deployment, recruitment, training, safety, and welfare.
Monitor service functions and Trust assets efficiently and safely.
Assist the Director of Environment in staff training and development.
Participate in the planning and development of Facilities Services.
Develop strategies for housekeeping services and waste management policy.
Lead the development and implementation of relevant policies.
Participate in monthly expenditure reviews with the Director of Facilities.
Ensure Health and Safety Management compliance.
Contribute to performance measurement targets and quality standards.
Identify and assist in developing income-generating services.
Participate in the Directorate Emergency On-call arrangement.
Ensure staff training methods are maintained accurately.
Act as deputy for the Director of Facilities when necessary.
Person SpecificationQualifications:
- Masters degree in Hotel and Catering Services
