Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Bank Band 5 Palliative Care Nurse to become a vital part of our Charity-funded Inpatient Hospice. Our facility features an 18-bed inpatient unit, a Day Centre, and a community team committed to delivering exceptional standards of palliative care within a multidisciplinary framework. We cater to individuals facing cancer, HIV, and other life-limiting conditions, along with their families.
Key Responsibilities
Patients are welcomed into our Specialist Palliative Care In-Patient Unit for comprehensive assessment, symptom management, end-of-life care, rehabilitation, respite services, and medical interventions, drawing from a broad catchment area.
This position is ideally suited for an experienced Palliative Care Nurse with a background in either hospice or hospital settings. The successful candidate will have a history of mentoring colleagues and training junior staff members.

Job Duties
The responsibilities of this role include:
- Upholding continuous high standards of nursing care and professional practice through evidence-based methodologies.
- Encouraging a forward-thinking approach to the ongoing enhancement of patient care through research and evidence-based practices.
- Serving as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.
- Overseeing and educating both qualified staff and healthcare assistants, as well as student nurses.
- Assisting the Ward Manager in all facets of leadership and management within the hospice inpatient unit.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
- Experience at Band 5 or higher in specialist palliative care or oncology.
- Proven practice that is evidence-based and current.
- Experience in identifying and managing risks within one’s own practice.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in supporting junior and less experienced staff.
- Strong assertive communication skills.
- Ability to conduct audits in an objective and efficient manner.
