Job Title – Head of Health and Safety

Location – UK Wide, Hybrid Role

Salary – £80,000- £90,000 + £7,500 Car Allowance

The HSE Recruitment Network is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Health and Safety to lead the health and safety function for one of our esteemed clients, a well-established construction company.

This is a newly created role, part of the company's investment in improving their health and safety culture. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking the company to the next level in their safety journey, building upon existing initiatives and identifying areas for improvement.

The role will require travel to sites across the UK, as well as to the company's Head Office in the North East. The successful candidate will report to the Central Head of SHEQ and have a dotted line into the Divisional MD, sitting as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive Health and Safety action plan for the business unit
  • Leading by example in promoting a growth and safety mindset
  • Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Providing expert advice on CAPEX requests for safety improvements and compliance-focused projects
  • Conducting root cause analysis to identify issues and opportunities for improvement
  • Representing the company in external Health and Safety working groups to stay informed on industry trends and best practices
  • Overseeing incident investigations and ensuring lessons learned are communicated and implemented organization-wide

Requirements:

  • Relevant Diploma-level Health and Safety qualification
  • Experience working in a senior management structure for a business unit
  • Good knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations
  • Background in construction or aligned sectors
  • Experience leading H&S improvement plans and initiatives with a track record of delivering and improving safety performance, culture, and behaviors
  • Ability to influence and communicate across all levels and demographics
  • Coaching and mentoring skills
  • Engaging, enthusiastic, confident attitude
  • Proficiency in delivering at pace
  • Personable and able to impact cultural change
