Position Overview

The primary objective of this role is to deliver exceptional direct patient care for individuals undergoing various endoscopic interventions. You will play a crucial role in assisting the Endoscopist while ensuring patient safety and dignity throughout the entire endoscopy process. The Day Surgery and Endoscopy Unit operates under practitioner leadership, engaging in areas such as pre-assessment, discharge, and management of post-discharge concerns, while maintaining connections with visiting Endoscopists, Consultants, Anaesthetists, Patient Services, and out-of-hours support.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a dedicated Gastrointestinal Care Specialist to join our Day Surgery and Endoscopy Units. Your responsibilities will include supporting endoscopists during procedures and providing specialized patient care before, during, and after the interventions. You will also be involved in the admission and discharge processes, with your primary location being within the designated hospital.

Strong communication skills are essential for fostering effective working relationships within the department, ensuring that we deliver high-quality patient care to our community. Additionally, the unit is committed to training clinical endoscopists, and various educational opportunities will be available.

Proficiency in Welsh is advantageous for this position; however, applications from both English and Welsh speakers are encouraged.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Registration with NMC/HCPC and possession of a Degree/Diploma or relevant professional qualification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Familiarity with gastroenterology nursing and care for this patient demographic.
  • Up-to-date portfolio showcasing professional growth.
  • Understanding of general medical conditions.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in an acute medical/surgical environment.

  • Some post-registration experience, preferably in the gastroenterology sector.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary team dynamics.
  • Knowledge of audit and research processes, with the ability to collect relevant data.
  • Competence in producing written and verbal reports related to patient care and documentation.
  • Understanding of clinical governance procedures.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and operational skills necessary for managing resources and delivering direct patient care.

Desirable Experience

  • Capability to plan patient care pre- and post-endoscopy.
  • Background in endoscopy or gastroenterology units.
