Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Fellow in Endoscopy, available for a fixed-term engagement with potential for extension.

The selected candidate will join the Gastroenterology Directorate and will be stationed at a leading healthcare facility.

Applicants must possess registration with the General Medical Council and hold JAG certification for independent diagnostic upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy.

Important Note: This position will be closed once a sufficient number of applications have been received.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues to ensure high-quality Gastroenterology services, with a primary focus on hepatobiliary endoscopy training, ERCP, and EUS, alongside the provision of lower GI diagnostic endoscopy.

Additional responsibilities will encompass research, audit, administrative tasks, and ongoing medical education.

About Our Organization

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was established following the merger of two prominent acute Trusts. This merger presents an opportunity to optimize services, ensuring the highest quality healthcare for the community and improving patient outcomes.

The Trust operates several hospitals and serves a diverse population, providing specialized services to a broader region.

The appointed individual will engage in tertiary multidisciplinary team meetings, ERCP, and EUS training, as well as participate in specialized clinics.

Job Responsibilities

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the provision of Gastroenterology services, focusing on hepatobiliary endoscopy training and lower GI diagnostic endoscopy. Other duties will include research, audit participation, administrative responsibilities, and ongoing medical education. A detailed job plan outlining fixed sessions is available, with flexibility for adjustments based on mutual agreement.

We are eager to support the initial delivery of training and provide Train the Trainer accreditation if necessary.

The selected candidate will be involved in multidisciplinary pathways for patient management, clinics, and training in ERCP and EUS.

A tailored training program will be developed to meet individual needs, emphasizing hepatobiliary endoscopy, with opportunities for exposure to other therapeutic endoscopy aspects as required.

Regular appraisals will be conducted as part of the fellowship.

All medical personnel are expected to engage in Medical Audit, with bi-monthly audit meetings organized within the department.

Informed consent will be obtained for all procedures and tissue samples.

A commitment to research initiatives will be encouraged.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MRCP (or equivalent)
  • Full registration with GMC

Desirable:

  • CCT for Gastroenterology

Experience

Essential:

  • Independent in diagnostic colonoscopy
  • Strong understanding of colonoscopic techniques and skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in basic therapeutic endoscopy
  • Evidence of delivering training and education
  • Proven track record in significant audit
  • Publication of audit results
  • Involvement in research
