Position Overview

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Rhinology within the ENT Directorate. This role is designed for experienced medical professionals looking to advance their expertise in the field of rhinology.

Key Responsibilities

This fellowship is tailored for senior trainees with a minimum of six years' experience as a Specialist Registrar (SpR) or equivalent. Candidates must possess both the MRCS (or equivalent) and an ENT exit examination (FRCS or national equivalent). This position is also open to those who have achieved a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or its national equivalent.

The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training in various aspects of rhinology, including advanced endoscopic sinus surgery and rhinoplasty. Exposure to anterior skull base procedures, sinonasal malignancies, and extended endoscopic anterior skull base surgery will be integral to the role. Additionally, significant experience in external septorhinoplasty is anticipated.

The fellow will play a pivotal role in the preparation and presentation of cases during multidisciplinary team meetings focused on Head and Neck Oncology and Skull Base.

Involvement in data collection, database management, and publication of clinical outcomes from the rhinology unit will be expected. The position offers numerous opportunities for research and clinical audits.

Work Schedule

Emergency daytime coverage will be provided during designated hours, with a rotation of one week in twelve. Out-of-hours responsibilities will follow a one-in-nine schedule.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MRCS, FRCS (ORLHNS) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Peri-CCT/European Board ORL examination.
  • Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).

Desirable:

  • Advanced qualifications such as BSc, MD, MPhil, or MSc.

Experience

Essential:

  • Completion of at least ST 8 level or equivalent higher surgical training in Otolaryngology.

Desirable:

  • Core Surgical Training experience in related specialties, including Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, or Maxillo-Facial Surgery.

Research and Audit

Essential:

  • Demonstrated evidence of audit and research publications in surgical fields.

Desirable:

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional meetings or conferences.
