About the Position

Smiths News is seeking a Senior Engineer to enhance our infrastructure team within a fast-paced and innovative setting.

Role Overview

This position focuses on the administration of VMware Vcenter and Veeam Backup systems. The successful candidate will be tasked with the design, implementation, and management of our Veeam Backup and Replication framework, ensuring data security, availability, and integrity through robust backup and recovery strategies.

The ideal applicant will possess comprehensive knowledge of Veeam solutions and experience with diverse storage and virtualization technologies. Responsibilities will also include configuring and managing vSphere environments, overseeing virtual machines, and applying best practices in virtualization management.

Key duties will involve maintaining the VMware vCenter infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and scalability of virtual environments. You will also be responsible for building new VMware systems, ensuring they operate efficiently with vSphere replication options and are properly backed up using Veeam.

As we strive for continuous improvement, you will work with the latest versions of Veeam and VMware technologies, optimizing our systems with cloud solutions. We are looking for an individual who can help streamline processes and deliver high-quality, consistent services to the organization.

  • This role requires a presence in the office for a significant portion of the workweek.
  • On-call availability and occasional after-hours work may be necessary.
  • Some travel to other locations and data centers may be required.

Candidate Profile

  • Proficient problem solver with excellent communication abilities.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing Veeam and VMware systems.
  • Experience in managing a Veeam backup and replication environment.
  • Skilled in job management and troubleshooting.
  • Capable of overseeing daily backup schedules and managing a comprehensive Veeam environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of VMware systems.
  • Able to function as a Vcenter administrator, performing upgrades, troubleshooting, and managing a virtual machine estate.
  • A self-motivated individual who can manage their workload, seek improvements, and embrace new technologies.
