Band 8A Healthcare Operations Manager

NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board

This role presents a unique opportunity for a proactive and knowledgeable professional in Continuing Healthcare (CHC) to become a vital part of our innovative team. The successful candidate will serve as the operational lead for the management and delivery of Continuing Healthcare, Funded Nursing Care, Continuing Care, and Personal Health Budgets. The individual will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that service planning and enhancements align with local needs, particularly as we transition towards outcome-focused commissioning.

The role entails leading appeals and disputes alongside the Head of Service, as well as ensuring quality assurance in CHC assessments and decision-making processes, adhering to national frameworks and operational policies.

Main Responsibilities

As the Operational Manager, you will:

  • Take direct managerial responsibility for the execution of Continuing Healthcare, Funded Nursing Care, and Personal Health Budgets across all assessment functions.
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure that service planning and developments are reflective of local needs, especially during the shift towards outcome-based commissioning.
  • Oversee the commissioning of individual care packages, including those for Continuing Healthcare, NHS Funded Nursing Care, and specialized placements for individuals with mental health, learning disabilities, or other rehabilitation needs.
  • Lead and manage a diverse team, including assessment team leaders and fast-track staff.
  • Ensure quality assurance in CHC assessments and decision-making in accordance with national frameworks and operational policies.
  • Support the achievement of efficiency targets throughout the CHC process.
  • Act as a deputy for the Head of CHC Services when necessary.
  • Provide leadership to senior leaders and administrative staff for service enhancement, data management, and local resolution.
