Job Overview
The position of a healthcare switchboard operator involves managing the hospital's communication systems, responding to urgent calls, and providing assistance at the main reception and car park intercom during off-peak hours. It is essential to be knowledgeable about emergency protocols, including fire safety, major incidents, and lockdown procedures, ensuring that all services are delivered with professionalism and courtesy to both internal and external stakeholders. The role requires flexibility in shift patterns, covering 24/7 operations throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be expected to:
- Respond to emergency calls within 5 seconds and general inquiries within 30 seconds.
- Manage fire alarms and alert the appropriate teams, as well as respond to departmental monitoring alarms.
- Provide Main Reception coverage during off-hours, addressing car park inquiries, processing payments, and resolving general issues.
- Communicate effectively with external partners, including GPs, hospitals, ambulance services, and local authorities, addressing service-related queries and taking necessary actions.
- Handle sensitive information with discretion and ensure accurate documentation of all communications.
- Maintain the switchboard operations, ensuring calls are answered promptly and directed to the correct departments.
- Attend to Main Reception duties, delivering courteous service to visitors outside of regular office hours.
- Process payments for parking and accommodation, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Monitor and assist with the car parking assistance system, utilizing initiative to resolve issues.
- Be familiar with fire alarm and major incident procedures, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Support the training and development of new staff members.
- Document all actions taken during major incidents and ensure timely communication of alarms and faults.

Qualifications and Skills
Essential
- Good general education, including English and mathematics.
